Stubble days are a thing of the past, as waxing becomes a more popular (and less awkward) treatment that can be received conveniently and affordably in Singapore – and a lot of it thanks to incredible waxing beauty salons, especially ones like Pink Parlour

Being viewed consistently as one of Singapore’s leading waxing beauty salons, their waxing services are phenomenal. Not to mention, they are giving out FREE underarm waxing for Prestige Members who are first time Pink Parlour clients and a 20% discount on ala-carte services for Passion Members. Apparently, that is one big news in town other than the landscaping 101 we are going to be talking about in this blog. Thus, book that wax now and read on to discover the 9 facts related to all-things-waxing.

Warm waxing is more effective than most other waxing techniques.

Warmed to a slightly higher temperature, warm wax is a thick wax applied to the skin after which a paper strip is pressed over it to adhere to both the wax and hairs. The paper strip is then pulled off, removing the hairs in that area from the root. Because warm wax sets around each of the hairs, it makes for a better grip and removal of thicker hairs that may be too stubborn to remove by cold wax. The warm wax is also more effective at removing shorter hairs for this same reason of being able to adhere to the hair more for a better grip.

Waxing is best done by an expert.

A lot of people avoid waxing more sensitive areas due to bad experiences but if done by a trusted therapist it should give the best and longest lasting hair-free finish. This is also one of the big reasons why people go to waxing beauty salons especially when it comes to Brazilian waxing (where all your hair is removed). But should you ever want to make a triangle or a landing strip it is also a good idea to get it done by a therapist as at-home waxing can be dangerous when done improperly.

Don’t shave or trim your hair before your wax.

Generally, in order for hair to adhere to the wax and be effectively removed, hair must be at least 14 inch (0.6 cm) to 12 inch (1.3 cm) in length. Therefore, you should avoid shaving or trimming in the week or two running up to your waxing session. Additionally, shaving in-between waxes is going to promote hair growth, making hair grow back faster (counter intuitive to the results you want from waxing). So the best thing to do before your waxing session is to simply chill and have some fun letting yourself get fuzzy in your judgment-free zone. Also, avoid gels, lotions, oils and tanning 24 hours to 48 hours before your wax as it may interfere with hair removal.

It gets easier over time.

Waxing (especially Brazilian waxing) does come with pain. But it’s worth it, and the pain goes away pretty fast. The first time getting waxed in an area hurts the most but it does get less painful each time after. So don’t overthink it – or watch waxing videos right before. It’s just going to make it worse when you watch the part when the waxer applies warm, quickly hardening wax to the customer’s very private area. And It’s hard to see it for yourself when ripping hardening wax off of it too – you know what we mean.

Limit your caffeine or alcohol intake.

Another point we want to mention here is imbibing pitchers of beer or drinking caffeine before your waxing session. A lot of us may have been taught early on to just sleep till the next day to have your Brazilian waxing. But what they never told you is that you should try to limit your caffeine/alcohol intake for about 12 hours to 24 hours before your appointment. This is because drinking too much of these will tighten your pores and heighten your sensitivity, thus making your skin more sensitive to pain. Though we absolutely encourage you to do whatever you need to do to relax, just try to steer away from caffeine/alcohol.

You don’t want to work out after waxing.

Working out right after a wax isn’t a good idea, especially after your hair has just been ripped out for the first time. Intense movements during work out can cause sweat and bacteria to quickly find their way to your new exposed pores, which is especially true if you’re wearing tight leggings that rub your skin. After waxing, it is suggested that you wait at least 24 hours before working out. So that means skipping your 6p.m. spin class in lieu of a wine night. Why not?

Wear cotton panties the day of your wax.

The most significant advantages of cotton clothing, including underwear, are that it breathes, it’s soft and comfortable, non-allergenic and insulating. In addition, unlike nylon and other synthetic materials, cotton will not become a habitat for fungi; nor does it produce static electricity. So for those who have sensitive skin and require comfort, cotton underwear is an ideal option after your wax. Apparently, tight pants are also a huge no-no in this respect; skip them on wax day.

Exfoliating prior to waxing helps.

Exfoliating is going to help prep your skin for the wax by removing dead skin cells. It’ll also help to prevent ingrown hairs. A nice sugar scrub is perfect for in-the-shower, while using loofah or washcloth to exfoliate your skin. You can also make your own exfoliating body scrub using Epsom salts, ground coffee or oatmeal. These are great for removing the top layer of dead surface-skin cells too. And post-wax? Wait two days before you start to exfoliate.

Double-dipping is a huge red flag.

Some waxing beauty salons are trained to believe that it is safe to double dip, unless there is blood on the spatula or going for a bikini wax. However, the truth is that double dipping compromises on the integrity of your skin and takes a toll on your health simultaneously. Many horror stories from waxing come from the fact that salons are double dipping and spreading bacteria. So the next time you walk in and see a used stick on top of the pot, turn around and walk away!
